These are some notes I have jotted down over the years; so sharing some thoughts of “the spiritual journey”, which may be included in a new “work”, “a labour of love”. Just “planting, sowing and watering, some seeds” (not my unkempt garden)… and hope they may be of interest. Enjoy.

INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS

Here are some thoughts I’ve collected (instead of stamps or bottle-tops) and jotted down recently in my “little grey book”. Some from authors unknown, and others mine, which may form part of a new work, true stories on HOPE and SPIRIT. These notes form part of a new manuscript, which I may name ‘BEYOND THE RAINBOW’

These are some of the notes (in point form) from thoughts and ideas that I’ve written down and collected over the years (some from authors and sources unknown), which may be of interest and get you “tinking” about these “airey-fairey matters”. Hope it’s not too “heavy heavy” for you and that these thoughts may be helpful, uplifting and perhaps even inspirational to you in your spiritual growth. Enjoy…

Jesus was always giving thanks (to the Father). Develop an “Attitude of Gratitude”.

Believe it, then you’ll see it!

The language of faith is not ‘please’, but ‘thanks’ (in advance).

Acts 2:22

The humanity of Christ. A “man” who demonstrated what true humanity was meant to be. It’s His (God’s) responsibility. Let Him loose in you.

Spirit of Truth, Church of Holy Wisdom

The way we live in union with Jesus resembles the way Jesus Christ lived in union with God.

God is the initiator of anything significant.

Depend on Him. Just TRUST
He takes the ordinary and produces the extra-ordinary – his raw material is the ordinary.
God does things you and I could never do… so revealing His glory. Jesus’s disciples put their faith in Him.

What Did Jesus Really Mean?

These are a few of my notes that I’m jotting down, as I study the life of Jesus Christ. Hope these thoughts may be of interest… and perhaps even “enlightening” to you too. Enjoy…

Jesus spoke often of the highest values like respect for others, honour, truth, tolerance, virtuousness, especially love and so on.

He used many figures of speech, taking “poetic licence” to get across his message to the masses. Even with dashes of humour, hyperbole, like “take the plank out of your own eye, before you tell another to take the speck out of their own eye” (or something like that). Jesus wasn’t literally talking about a “plank of wood”, or “a (powerful) faith that can move a mountain” (not a “literal mountain”, as only God can do that!)

PEACE

Jesus spoke about a true and lasting peace… and it all begins within… in the heart.

His words “I come not to bring peace, but a sword” are often misunderstood. He was using a metaphor, implying that following him through faith (fanatically” would cause division within families and in the community.

IS WAR EVER JUSTIABLE?

When he spoke about “loving one’s enemies”, he wasn’t speaking about war situations, as Christianity maintains that war is justified in certain situations (and as an absolutely final resort after all other options (to preserve peace) have been exhausted) – to remove evil tyrants and dictators, who are killing scores of innocent civilians (as an Adolf Hitler did). Muhammar Gaddafi? But then what about situations like President Bashar al-Assad in Syria and Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe???

WHAT DID JESUS REALLY MEAN?

When Jesus spoke about being “reborn”, he was using a figure of speech and it was not intended to be taken literally. When a person is “reborn to enter the Kingdom of God”, it means transformation to a new way of thinking – in short, it’s a new heart, a new way (or path) of living, which results in “embracing a new life” (“be transformed by the renewing of your mind”- Romans, I “tink”).

This transformation starts from that moment in a believer’s life. And it’s this new (fresh)spirit (of faith, when a person chooses to follow Jesus’s teachings and fully LIVE them), which lives on (even after a person’s life on earth), so this is meant by the term eternal!

We can do no better than end with the words of a leader who gave his life for the cause of justice, freedom and abundant life for all people. ..

The Story of the Four Candles

The Four Candles burned slowly.

Their ambiance was so soft you could hear them speak…

The first candle said, “I Am Peace, but these days, nobody wants to keep me lit.”

Then Peace’s flame slowly diminished and went out completely.

The second candle said, “I Am Faith, but these days, I am no longer indispensable.”

Then Faith’s flame slowly diminished and went out completely.

Sadly the third candle spoke, “I Am Love and I haven’t the strength to stay lit any longer.”

“People put me aside and don’t understand my importance.

They even forget to love those who are nearest to them.”

And waiting no longer, Love went out completely.

Suddenly…

A child entered the room and saw the three candles no longer burning.

The child began to cry,

“Why are you not burning? You are supposed to stay lit until the end.”

Then the Fourth Candle spoke gently to the little boy,

“Don’t be afraid, for I Am Hope, and while I still burn,

we can re-light the other candles.”

With shining eyes, the child took the Candle of Hope

and lit the other three candles.

Never let the Flame of Hope go out.

With Hope in your life, no matter how bad things may be,

Peace, Faith and Love may shine brightly once again.
