Article Summary. The name, as well as the sex, matters not to me. Further, I feel no need to argue and defend whether what is happening to me is God or that the effects are transformational. I can see the results in my own life. So can others.!

What I’ve experienced is God, or Transcendence, or Universal Intelligence, or Consciousness itself

* *

For centuries, Christians have not only believed but vigorously defended the view that Jesus is the one and only way to God. As a Christian myself, I was one of these who not only believed this but was ready to argue and debate with anyone who questioned what I thought was an unquestionable claim made by none other than Jesus himself. That claim is recorded in John 14:6. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except by me.” To me, for someone to question this bold assertion was tantamount to heresy. In fact, I mistakenly thought that, if a person did not believe that Jesus was the one and only the way to God, he or she could not be a Christian at all.

Admittedly, I no longer believe any of this. In fact, now that I know myself a little better, I realize I only vigorously argued this erroneous belief regarding Jesus, because I secretly feared Jesus might not be only way to God. Further, I quietly reasoned, and feared, if Jesus wasn’t what he claimed to be then that made him nothing less than a raving lunatic. This still is the primary argument many Christian apologists make for arguing that Jesus is the only way to God (see the writings of Josh McDowell, as an example). The real truth, however, is this: “You only believe the things you’re not certain about,” as a wise spiritual teacher once put it. For example, you do not believe in the sun, do you? Of course not! What is there to believe in? That it exists? But, you know that it does because you can see it, feel its warmth, as well as observe its effects. It makes no sense to say, therefore,, “I believe in the sun.” Or, “I believe, as scientists tell us, that the sun is very, very, hot place and that it provides us light.” We know all of these things to be true without having to believe they are. So, there’s nothing to believe in. It is only ever what you believe in, but cannot know for certain, that typically morphs into a “belief” and so needs defending. What you really know never needs defending. To put it in a more familiar way, “Truth needs no defense.”

Deepak Chopra once said, “Beliefs are a cover-up for insecurity.” This means that louder and more definitive a person argues his or her point of view is often an indicator of the depth of insecurity he or she feels with their arguments. You have likely heard preachers shout as they were preaching. They do this because many of them are not only insecure with who they are, but they are equally insecure about what they’re saying. I know this, because I was one of them for more than two decades. It took me a long time to realize this very simple truth. We often get our little egos wrapped around even smaller belief systems and then feel, whenever someone questions those beliefs, that we are being personally attacked. So, after all these years, here’s what I can say with certainty. Here is what I know, not just a belief.

First, I know that no one knows it there is a God, much less a way (or, the way) to know God, whether by Jesus or any other means

. For myself, the most I can say with certainty is that I have had some kind of inexplicable experience that continues to transform how I look at myself, how I feel about the world, how I view others, and the way I live my life. This experience of inner transformation has been so profoundly life-altering that I know of no other way to explain it but to point to the possibility that what I’ve experienced is God, or Transcendence, or Universal Intelligence, or Consciousness itself. The name, as well as the sex, matters not to me. Further, I feel no need to argue and defend whether what is happening to me is God or that the effects are transformational. I can see the results in my own life. So can others.Second, I also know that, the more I give my attention (and for me that’s through meditation) to this “Holy Other,” as Rudolph Otto called it, the more at peace I am, or wish to argue with me about my beliefs, I find myself the happier I feel, and the more completely satisfied with everything, including my own life, that I am. I find all of this amazing indeed. When people press me for proof, ilf saying only what the blind man said when Jesus healed him. His accusers demanded an explanation. His was, “I was blind, now I see.” I have learned, for those who really see, that explanation is enough. For those who don’t, it’s never enough.

What does any of this have to do with Jesus and whether he’s the only way to know God? Everything indeed. Although I grew up in a Christian home, followed in my father’s footsteps and became a minister, went to college, then to eight years of theological training, earning a doctoral degree in theology, I cannot say that I really knew this Transcendence. I knew about God, but I cannot say I knew God. I believed many things about God but, in terms of knowing an inner, Eternal and transformative Presence, I did not. Although I said I believed in Jesus and so vigorously preached that he was the only way to salvation and eternal life, I cannot say it made much difference in how I felt about myself, treated others, or viewed the world. Salvation was little more than a ticket to some make believe world in the future after death. As far as Jesus’ teaching as a way to live my life here and now…as a way to know and enjoy spiritual enlightenment in the present moment was inconceivable. Eckhart Tolle said, “Even belief in God is only a poor substitute for the living reality of God manifesting every moment of your life.

There are scores of “Christian” people today who maintain that Jesus is the Savior of the world but, for most of them, Jesus is a Savior from this world instead of a Savior for this world. That is to say, they mistakenly think, just as I did, that Jesus came to save them from this world instead of show them how to live in this world and so be at peace with themselves and with others. Therefore, I now know that when Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth…no one comes to the Father but by me,” he was not saying, as Christian history has mistakenly thought, “There is no other way to God but by me.” He was simply saying instead, “The way I live is the way to know God — it’s also the way to live happily in this world. If you want to know God, follow my way…emulate how I live, how I think, the way I treat myself, others, and the world.”

This truth, this knowing, has radically altered how I read and interpret all the words attributed to Jesus in the New Testament. For example, throughout most of my life, I read Jesus’ words, “Have no enemies,” as something humanly impossible, except for someone Divine like Jesus. I dismissed these words, as do most Christians, as an ideal that was wonderful to imagine but too lofty to attain. I now realize Jesus meant exactly what he said. Furthermore, you’re just playing games to say you believe in Jesus, but dismiss his way of life and teachings. Only real followers, serious about living a transformed, enlightened human existence as he did, will take serious these words and so live by them.

The Christian church today is full of believers; but few people who know Jesus, the God he knew so well that he called him Father, or the eternal, transformative Presence of Christ in themselves. If they did, for example, no longer would they view the Iraqis’ and the Iranians the way virtually everyone else in America does – as the enemy. They would, as their leader, have no enemies. This, then, is what it means to be a follower of Jesus. This, then, is what Jesus meant by “I am the way…to God.” What he was saying is this: “Unless you live as I live, you cannot know the God I know.”peace, and tranquility. It is not a belief, but a knowing. An inner experience of the Divine that is, in-and-of-itself, divine. I want nothing nothing more. I need nothing less.
If you’d like to explore how to know God and a host of other questions related to the spiritual life, I’d like to invite you to read the book, The Enoch Factor: The Sacred Art of Knowing God. In it, I share many of the things I’ve learned about this and other important matters pertaining to spirituality. “The highest goal of my ‘little’ life is to know and experience God’s eternal presence”

May God’s brilliant light illuminate your path up ahead

So, today this I can say that I know with certainty: I am coming to know this kind Christ-spirit within myself. It is enlightening. It is inexplicable. It is full of joy.

Is Christ-consciousness the same thing as the “Buddha-nature” (by Dr. Steve McSwain)?

The Christian theologian, Teilhard de Chardin put it like this: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are really spiritual beings having a temporary human experience.”
So, this is part of what I mean by “Christ-consciousness” or what Easterners call your “Buddha-nature.” You could think of this in Biblical terms as the “soul,” provided you don’t get too Platonic about it and think of your soul as a separate entity captured temporarily in your body.
You really only showed up for one reason – to know God and to walk with her, or him, or whatever you’d like to call it. It really doesn’t matter, does it?

Is Christ-consciousness the same thing as the “Buddha-nature”?

Key words: Dr. Steve McSwain, Jesus, Jesus Christ, Christ-consciousness, Buddhism, Buddha

When I speak of “Christ-consciousness” I am referring to the degree of your awareness along three lines. One is your awareness of yourself. I sometimes ask people, “Who are you when no one is looking?” It’s an important question but, unfortunately, most people live as I lived for much of my adult life-completely out-of-touch or uncertain as to who they really are.

All of us wear a social mask, what psychologists often refer to as an ego. It is the image you have of yourself or the self-image you present to the world. What most people do not yet know, however, is that your ego, this image of yourself you display before the world, is not who you really are at all.

The real you is beneath and beyond the image you carry around in your head as to who you are, the image you want everyone to see and believe is you. The Christian theologian, Teilhard de Chardin put it like this: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are really spiritual beings having a temporary human experience.” Until you know this, or know who you really are in the deepest place within you, you will live an “unconscious,” or out-of-touch, existence. Or, to state it another way, the path to real happiness and wholeness in life starts with knowing who you are, as well as who you’re not.

So, this is part of what I mean by “Christ-consciousness” or what Easterners call your “Buddha-nature.” You could think of this in Biblical terms as the “soul,” provided you don’t get too Platonic about it and think of your soul as a separate entity captured temporarily in your body. I am referring only to your essential naturewho you really are beneath the facades-and there can be many of these. The ego in us is always changing and eventually dissolving.

People will often ask me, “How will I know when I know who I really am?”

And, the answer is, “When you no longer have to ask the question.”

There’s another aspect to “Christ-consciousness.” The genuinely aware, or conscious, person, not only knows who she/he is beyond the social masks; but, as a consequence, why he/she is here-that is, why he/she showed up on planet earth. One of the biggest mistakes made in recent Christian history has been this notion that we all showed up for a special “purpose.” Christians know this as God’s perfect and permissive wills. It’s a whole lot of bunk, if you ask me.

Easterners are taught something similar in the teaching of dharma. It is this erroneous idea that you were created with a special purpose to fulfill on planet earth. So, what we’ve done, not only in Christianity but in other religions too, is create this insane expectation in people that their task in life is to figure out what they showed up to do.

You can guess the consequences of that nonsense. The overwhelming majority of people live a frustrating existence, because they go through life never certain they’ve figured out why they really showed or what they’re here to do. It’s madness.

You really only showed up for one reason – to know God and to walk with her, or him, or whatever you’d like to call it. It really doesn’t matter, does it? My children usually call me Dad. But, there are other times they call me Daddy, or Pop, and, when they’re mad at me, it’s Stephen. Do you think I care what they call me. I would only care if they did not.

With God, everything is pretty simple. It is religion, and religious people, and the ego in us all that complicates things. What could be less complicated than knowing God? Why would God, if it is true she wants to know and walk with us, make it difficult or complicated for us to do so? And, when it comes to your life and mine, what could you ever do or accomplish that could mark your life as more significant than walking in the Eternal bliss of God’s ineffable presence? I can think of nothing, can you?

I’ve put up an entire post on my blog about this (and written a whole book about this and other matters related to the spiritual life), and I’d love to share some of the things I’ve learned with you. To get started, visit my blog at http://www.stevemcswain.com.

Just sharing a few “torts” from my “work I’m currently writing” (or rather just seems to be writing itself: ‘The Real Jesus: The Jesus I Know and Love’. My aim in this manuscript is to get the reader into the presence of the living Jesus.

The resurrection has been the greatest controvery in history; this single event has shaped the course of history. Jesus rose into a new form of existence – he moved into a new dimension of reality.

The hearts of the early disciples were changed, beyond their minds. They were empowered by a force outside (beyond) themselves, One that gave them a new form of existence.

It is far easier NOT to believe in the resurrection. Because faith is a leap, a risk, but is hope in things unseen. It’s a matter of living your life, the eternal dimension of life; because opening our eyes allows us to see God’s presence all around us.

“Be bold and unsen forces come to one’s aid.”
(that has been one of my favourite quotations for many many years)

“The vision, the Kingdom, the message of  Jesus 2000 years ago will bring peace and prosperity.  At an individual level, it’s the transformation of human beings and enables them to be like Christ Himself. And each one of us can be an extension of the life of Christ, an exhibition of His character and a demonstration of the infinite power of God to accomplish absolutely anything.”

MY BELIEFS, MY TRUTHS:

There is ONE Almighty God, Infinite Spirit, the Ground of All Being…Who is working something good out of our life.
Be patient, because patience and resilience build character.

Jesus is the human face of God. The Divine and the human meet perfectly in Jesus.

God responds to desperation.
Say: “In times of deep despair, never give up hope. Say to yourself: “This will work out, eventually… for my ultimate good. In time you’ll see.”

Christianity is INTERNAL- not external. It’s not religion, but a relationship

You have been born with a capacity to exercise faith.

God’s greatest gift to us is to find, then follow our own truths.

There is a divine purpose for which we are all created.
‘Greatness’ is what you impart to others.
Tap into joy and fulfilment.
God has already equipped you with all you need to achieve your wildest dreams.

GROW
APPLY the Word – what you learn… to your heart
OBSERVE the consequences of your actions.

Be strengthened by the unlimited power of God.

Joyously GIVE THANKS

You will soar high and be all the person God intended you to be.

Religion is reaching out to God; whereas with Christianity God reaches out to us. It’s a relationship and requires active (and not passive) participation.
It’s practical. LIVE the faith, LIVE the idealism.

THE JESUS I KNOW …AND LOVE

INTRODUCTION

Christianity has its roots in mystery, the mystery of eternal life. It’s a way of understanding the unfathomable. Understanding the ultimate mystery, God, the Ultimate Source… and the cycle of life, death and rebirth.

Jesus is the human face of God – in Him the divine and human meet. In Jesus Christ we see God become flesh.

The highest goal of my life is knowing and experiencing God. Many people know a lot about Jesus; yet few of them really know Jesus. My aim in this “work” is to get the reader into the presence of the living Jesus.

*

No religion, nobody has a monopoly on enlightenment

“Christianity should be enlightened enough to seperate spirituality from the rest of life – not just church and state, but knowledge and church. Religious groups not telling you what you can and can’t do, but religion becoming an inside thing.”
– Ayaan Hirsi Ali (author of her book ‘Nomad’

Who we are is God’s gift to us.
What we become is our gift to God.

And gifts are given by grace.
The virtues of justice, truth and grace.

What we can learn about life?
When the plans and dreams we make don’t work out, just know that God has a better plan, bigger dreams for our lives.

I choose to believe that Jesus died for us;
but we can choose to live for Him.

Jesus is ‘an author of reconciliation’
I believe in the Holy Spirit

Jesus turns the ordinary into the extra-ordinary.

YOU represent Jesus, today!

In Jesus’s own life was the key of his nearness to God… and that he expressed as no other could, the spirit and will of God. Jesus is the human face of God.

REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE

Listening to the inarticulate can help bring peace to others, says Glenn Jetta Barclay

REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE

Listening to the inarticulate can help bring peace to others, says Glenn Jetta Barclay

Key words: Jesus, Jesus Christ, Christmas, peace, Glenn Jetta Barclay, Dominion

Have you heard the silence? The silence of the Child Jesus around whom Christmas swirls?

So it is that the silent Jesus symbolises all who cannot speak clearly for themselves. Therefore the Jesus of Christmas is the Jesus who relates to all societies and people.

As a child born before the “Rights of the Child” existed, Jesus reflects all children living in unhealthy and risky circumstances, whether rich or poor.

Jesus lived among children, especially slaves, who were neglected, ill-treated, even violated. These little ones had no voice to protest. Neither do un-liberated children today!

Jesus lived in a war zone, as do modern children in the Middle East. Life is expendable in such areas. Children regularly die, are unjustly imprisoned, even tortured; some are forced to become child prisoners. Propaganda twists the truth

These children are virtually voiceless. Are we listening to their enforced silence?

The adult Jesus was articulate in word and action, responding to human cries. Jesus showed unconditional love. And all people, whether religious or not, can celebrate love.

The good news is that some people are indeed listening to the silence of the voiceless; are indeed acting out the sacred code of love, mercy and justice.

Christians celebrate the birth of the one, whose message of total love remains.

“Peace, goodwill to all, now and forever”, as the angels wonderfully sang. Do you hear it in the silence This is for ALL to celebrate. That peace is for YOU. That godwill is for YOU. Just as peace and goodwill is for both the articulate and the voiceless.
God needs humans in partnership to help peace become a reality for others. We can begin today, as we listen to the silence and act accordingly. Then this 2009 Christmas will be true to it’s essence.

“St Paul preached a world order based not on power, but on righteousness. Peace and prosperity would be won not by might of arms, but through justice, love and sharing – that was how Jesus’s vision of of God’s kingdom would be realised.”

– Ian Harris writing in his column ‘Honest to God’ in the Dominion newspaper, Wellington, New Zealand
Jesus related to all societies and people – the common fabric of humanity. He was “a voice for the voiceless”. The life-changing power of Jesus.

He had a passion for peace, mutual tolerance interaction between different faiths and respect for all.

God needs human beings in partnership to help peace become a reality for others. In so doing, we are then choosing hope over fear, unity over division.

‘NEW REVELATIONS’: BASIC CHRISTIANITY (CHRISTIANITY FOR “BEGINNERS and DUMMIES”)

Tags: Christianity, Jesus Christ, Jesus, faith, Alpha course, Alpha, Nicky Gumble

This extract is from/for a manuscript, which may be titled ‘New Revelations’ (which is “kinda writing itself”)

Introduction

And each day the devout “Prophet” diligently read his green-jacketed Bible and made notes. He also passed on his knowledge to his disciples, who visited him in his small flat, which was known as the “Church of Holy Truth and Wisdom” in the local community.

The “Prophet” was an excellent teacher, explaining the beliefs of Christianity simply to his frequent visitors. Though he had little money, he was a very generous man with a wonderful gift of hospitality bestowing tea, coffee and biscuits on all who called, many of them “lost souls” (the “ten percenters” as he called them), those poor people, who had lost meaning and direction in life)… and he got even better at his simple teachings to his friends, as the holy spirit filled him with even more clarity with the slow passing of the years.

Today our lesson is THE CLAIMS OF CHRIST, he quietly spoke, as he opened then thumbed through his well-worn holy Bible.

The “Prophet declared …

“Jesus said,

“I am the way, the truth and the life.”
– John 14:6

This truth is something that has to be experienced.

Christianity is NOT irrelevant in today’s world, as it transforms the whole of people’s lives.

What did Jesus say about himself?

Much of his teaching was centred on himself.

“I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35)

“I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12)

“I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25,26)

“I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14.6)

“My kingdom” (Luke 22:30)

“Come to me” (Matthew 11:28,29)

“Follow me – Receive God (Matthew 10:40)

“Welcome me – Welcome God’ (Mark 9:37)

“To have seen me is to have seen God” (John 14:9)

Claims our supreme love (Mathew 10:37, Luke 14,26)

Jesus’s Indirect Claims:

* To forgive sins (Mark 2:5)

* To judge the world (Mathew 25:31,32(

Jesus’s Direct Claims:

* Messiah (Mark 14:61,62)

* Son of God (Mark 14:61)

* God the Son
“before Abraham was born, I am!”  (John 8:58)

“My Lord and My God” (John 20:28)

claim to be God” (John 10:33)

“When someone follows Christ, they become a brand new person inside. They are not the same anymore. A new life has begun.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Word of God

We must not trust our feelings, which are changable and deceptive; but rely instead on God’s promises.

“I will come in.” (Revelation 3:20)

“I am with you always.” (Matthew 28:20)

“I give them eternal life.” (John 10:28)

Faith is taking God’s promises, then daring to believe them.

The Work of Jesus

We cannot earn God’s forgiveness; but Jesus Christ died on the cross, so that we may be reconciled to God.

God loves us and died to prove it (John 3:16)

The Witness of the Spirit

The Spirit transforms us from within.

The Spirit brings a deep, personal conviction that I am God’s child (Romans 8:15,16)

Does God Always Answer Prayer?
Matthew 7:7-11)

BUT…

Yes/no/wait

Use Common Sense

“Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.” (2 Timothy 2:7)

“God’s promises of guidance were not given to save us the problem of thinking.”
– John Stott

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

The Holy Spirit

The promise of a ‘new thing’

“They will all know me.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

“I will put my Spirit in you.” (Ezekiel 36:26,27)

“I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” (Joel 2:28,29)

In the New Testament

With the coming of Jesus there is a great activity of the Spirit.

Jesus, the Spirit-filled man:

Jesus received power through the anointing of the Holy Spirit at his baptism (Luke 3:22, Luke 4:1, 14.18)

New birth (John 3:5-7)

The Spirit of God can come to people in many ways, yet the effect is the same – a new birth

Everyone is different (and has unique life experiences); so everyone “experiences” God in different ways.

‘Questions of Life’ and ‘A Life Worth Living’ by Nicky Gumble (Kingsway)

How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of my Life?
(Romans 12:1-21)

What Should We Do?

Break with the past

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world.” (v2)
In other words (those of JB Phillips): “Do not let the world around you sqeeze you into it’s mould.”

Make a new start, a bright new dawn

“Let God transform you inwardly by a new change.” (NEB)

Finally,

This changed (the Awakened Spirit) comes about through:

* love (sincere)

* enthusiasm (for God) and

* harmonious relationships

My Note:
Where the term “Him” is used, use whatever term which you use to describe God, Source of Life

“The Son can do nothing without the Father.”

“I am here to fulfill.”

Whatever He says, DO IT!
Listen. Ask for His co-operation.
God is the initiator of anything significant.
Jesus gives a command.
Every act is precipitated by an act of obediance.

Depend on Him. Just TRUST
He takes the ordiniary and produces the extra-ordinary – his raw material is the ordinary.
God does things you and I could never do… so revealing His glory. Jesus’s disciples put their faith in Him.

THE (MY) GREATEST RACE

Paul had a purpose in living – the single-mindedness of an athlete in training. He lived with a selfless attitude in serving and giving.

What we put into our minds determines what comes out in our words and actions. Paul tells us to program our mind with thoughts that are true, honourable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise.

Don’t let anything take your eye off the goal- knowing Christ. Focus all your energies towards winning the race.

Shine your light brightly for Christ, the One who makes the ordinary extra-ordinary.

LOOK INTO THE HEART OF EASTER AND SEE

Humans have a natural desire to understand the cycle of life, death and rebirth . Christianity has its roots in the mystery of eternal life. This faith is a way of ‘understanding the unknowable’.
However, one has to be a believer to get into different levels of understanding, which is achieved through the power of faith. Christianity is a far more active participation and a personal relationship (with God) than other more “fatalistic” faiths. It’s God reaching out to us.

Look into the heart of Easter and see
The observance of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to the Christian religion. We asked leaders of the principal denominations to share their thoughts on Easter

Here are some Easter messages from New Zealand
From http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10635696&pnum=0

ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

“’One person can make a difference!’ Easter yells through the silence of spectators to say, ‘Your being here makes a difference – no matter how small you feel.’ What can one person do? Quite a lot, actually
The world can be a better place because you’re in it. Look into the heart of Easter and see.’- The Rev Alan Upson, president, Methodist Church of New Zealand:

LIFE IS TRANSFORMED

“His followers were so convinced that Jesus was still alive with some form of transformed life that they refused to renounce this belief, even in the face of beatings, imprisonment, and death itself. In the words of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, to be ‘charged’ with the grandeur of God.”
– The Most Rev Patrick Dunn, Catholic Bishop of Auckland:
UNSEEN DYNAMICS

“Jesus Christ there’s opportunity for anybody to be reconciled to relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We were created to be in this relationship. Estrangement from God lies at the root of all that makes life fractured and unmanageable.
Easter invites us to consider what happened 2000 years ago, and to experience the reconciliation offered in Jesus Christ.
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself… The witnesses at the cross didn’t see it, but now this has been revealed. Easter invites us to believe in the goodness of God and God’s power to redeem.”
– Major Heather Rodwell, divisional commander, the Salvation Army:

WEIGHT OF SORROWS

“Jesus took upon himself the tremendous burden of the sins of the world. The result of this spiritual atonement is that forgiveness is available to those who repent of the things they do wrong and which separate them from God.”
– Elder Michael A. Roberts, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

SEARCH FOR INTEGRITY

”No transformation can take place until we have that moment of ‘brutal honesty’.”
– The Rev Andrew Norton, moderator of the Auckland Presbytery

POWER OF FORGIVENESS
“Non-retaliation . Through the cross of Jesus, God was offering the forgiveness of sins and the reconciliation of God and humanity. And from this spiritual reality there came a human outworking. Those who experience forgiveness and reconciliation with God are then to make that real in their human relationships. Those who have been shown mercy must act in the same way. The message of Easter is about the unconditionally forgiving love of God and the hope of new beginnings for all.”
– The Very Rev Ross Bay, Bishop-elect of the Anglican diocese of Auckland:
WHAT IS OUR RESPONSE?

“The Crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday and the celebration of new life that is available through the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday – or Resurrection Sunday – provides us with hope and confidence that as death and the grave could not hold Jesus, that in Him we, too, can be raised to an eternal future free from sin and grief.”
– Pastor Colin Hopkins, Auckland Baptist Churches:

Sourced from http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10635696&pnum=0

“The larger Easter message is that the world, left to human selfishness is chaotic and brutal”, writes Muslim academic Abdal Hakim Murad. “Christians think that God himself had to come into the world and transform it from within. Muslims and Jews deny that God can have a body. But we do think that the world needs redemption. When the spirit of God touches any human being, of whatever faith or gender, that person is a sign of heaven.”

A sense of ‘the Other, of something beyond ourselves, which many recognise as God, and Christians encounter through Jesus Christ, gives meaning and direction when all hope seems lost. The redemptive power of Christ is alive and well both inside and outside-organised religious frameworks.

Sharing Some Thoughts on Jesus, Love and Peace

So after that “little pre-amble, ramble”… in the light of current world uncertainty and turmoil, I ask myself: “What would Jesus have done (or wanted to have done) with Saddam Hussain?” Also What would Jesus do with all the other “hot-spots” in the world, like Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, Myanmar, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Congo (DRC)… and especially the “tinderbox of hatred” in the Middle East?

SHARING SOME THOUGHTS ON JESUS, LOVE AND PEACE

INTRODUCTION
The Place of Jesus Christ in the History of the World:
Jesus was the highest revelation of God to humanity. He preached justice and peace, and how to lead a good life. Psychologists around the globe should look to Jesus Christ’s “ground-breaking work” regarding the “spiritual journey on an earthly existence” with great respect, perhaps even reverance…for there has never been a person who knew man’s mind and nature as He did. No person before or since understood the human condition so well…or could read the human soul so easily, sensitively and unerringly.
Otto Borchert writes: “The psychologist must look up to Him with respect, for there has never been a man who knew men as He did, no one ever estimated human nature so justly, or could read the human soul so easily and uneringly.”
Jesus had a strong sense of mission, as well as His unique sense of purpose. his message of unity. I see Jesus as a “radical pacifist”, who broke down barriers (between people). He was a free man, free in his mind… and free in his spirit.

*

So after that “little pre-amble, ramble”… i
n the light of current world uncertainty and turmoil, I ask myself: “What would Jesus have done (or wanted to have done) with Saddam Hussain?” Also What would Jesus do with all the other “hot-spots” in the world, like Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, Myanmar, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Congo (DRC)… and especially the “tinderbox of hatred” in the Middle East?
Jesus understood society’s problems and challenged existing beliefs, even the dogmas of religion. The universal message of God opposing injustice and changing the world for the better. In my view Jesus Christ challenged the conventional thinking of the day (as He no doubt would today) and totally understood man’s nature. As Christ said 2000 years ago, “Love thy enemies”. I truly believe that the immense problems of this world cannot be solved at the same level of thinking that created them.
I truly believe that countries should NOT seek to dominate other nations; but rather seek “Win-Win” solutions, through working together in a “new multi-lateral and more collaborative world”. (The process of synergy at work: ie. 1 + 1 = 3… or perhaps it’s 111!).
The path to peace starts with education and communication, which then leads to negotiation, inevitable concessions, compromises and “trade-offs”.  Opening lines of communication is the first step towards peace.
“So let us build bridges rather than barriers, openness rather than walls. Let us look at distant horizons together in a spirit of acceptance, helpfulness, co-operation, and peace.”

If we ALL fully use our imaginations, doing it RIGHT, with total commitment in a spirit of kindness, love and acceptance of other cultures, and especially attempting to understand other peoples and societies*… then other immense and seemingly insoluble problems of the world, like violence, war and poverty would one day be alleviated… and the world would be a far safer place.

* an enemy is just someone you don’t understand and who doesn’t understand where you are coming from (thanks for sharing, my ‘kind airey-fairey philosopher friend’, Andy).
And absolutely NOTHING is impossible with kindness and love: A spirit of love dismantles evil…and… “Kindness and love is a power in us more powerful than bullets” (sorry President Bush and the military establishment!).
I truly believe that!
We have to trust not man or countries (and especially the “sole super-power and self-appointed policeman of our planet”, who have done a lot of good in the past, incidentally – thanks), but God, the Universe, Our Creator, the Ultimate Source, the Grand Designer of Life for justice to prevail in this world (“there are many religions; yet only ONE God“). Yet, I truly believe each one of us has to do all in his or her power to try to make a better world… and this is my reason for publicly sharing these thoughts (please don’t shoot, “stirrer but peaceful, little old me”!).
* I am reminded of something Dr Martin Luther King, Jnr said not long before he was assassinated:
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible; but in the end, they always fall. Think of it, ALWAYS.”
Jesus really did understand perfectly man and the human condition. As the world’s greatest Possibility Thinker, He DID have all the answers to the problems of the world – then and TODAY.
“When the world is filled with love, people’s hearts are overflowing with hope.”
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light…
and where there is sadness, joy.
I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.”
– St Francis of Assisi
(thanks for passing on your generous spirit to the world, dearest mom)
“Let us build bridges rather than barriers, openness rather than walls. Rather than borders, let us look at distant horizons together in a spirit of acceptance, helpfulness, co-operation, peace, kindness and especially LOVE.”
craig (just an ordinary person, but a “tireless worker/writer and warrior for a more peaceful world”)
“Love is the only force that can erase the difference between people or bridge the chasms of bitterness. In a changing world, it is a constant. It is the security of the home. It is a beacon of hope in a world of distress.” *
– Wayne R. Bills, MA
“LOVE goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved. It finds its deepest meaning and his spiritual being, his inner self. Whether or not he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases somehow to be of importance.”
– WW II concentration camp survivor, Viktor E. Frankl (in his book ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’)
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr
“I believe often we greatly underestimate our potential and resources. We have it all within to do anything; but when we feel weak and don’t think we have anything left to give, then all we need to do is ask in prayer. You will receive wisdom , strength, imagination and creativity you never knew you possessed from without, from a Higher Power, your Creator…
and then nothing is impossible to you and God in union”
“But what can a ‘mere I’ do, God?
…and the Lord replied…
“I made you!”
Shared by “stirring peacefully” craig
“Become the person you are CAPABLE of being … and ALL the person God, Our Creator and Ground of our Being intended us to  become.”

Lord, broaden my horizons for all the rich promises you have in store for me.”
