A “Review” of ‘The Greatest Miracle in the World’ by Og Mandino

The leading inspirational author of our time, Og Mandino was once a down-and-out alcoholic who contemplated suicide. In this best-selling book, Og Mandino shares his personal story and reveals the process that turned a derelict into a millionaire and a happy man in ten years.. One of Og Mandino’s best stories.

“Our mind is the greatest creation on earth and it can generate the most sublime happiness for its owner–or it can destroy him. Yet although we have been given the secret of how to control it, for our happiness and benefit, we still function completely ignorant of its potential . . . ”

“I gave you the power to choose. I gave you complete control over your destiny… in accordance with your own free will. ”

The most difficult tasks are consummated, not by a single explosive burst of energy or effort, but by consistent and determined daily application of the best you have within you.

‘The God Memorandum’ is only your ticket to a new life. It will do nothing for you unless you open your mind and your heart to receive it.

As a member of mankind, You are my greatest miracle

To receive love it must be given with no thought of its return.

Know then the first secret of happiness and success — that you possess, even now, every blessing necessary to achieve great glory.

The first law:

1. Count your blessings and know that you are already my greatest creation. . . .

True security lies not in the things one has, but in the things one can do without.

2, The second law is: Proclaim your rarity.

Never, until the end of time, will there be another such as you.

3.This then is the third law . . . Go another mile!

Be patient . . .

Be proud . . .

You were made with purpose.

Article Summary:
The Greatest Miracle in the World” by Og Mandino is an inspirational book (
self help), which tells the story of Simon Potter, a ragpicker who delivers an inspiring “memorandum from God” to make the difference between success or disaster in YOUR life. The book reveals that an individual should not consider himself or herself a failure …and we must not let ourselves lose hope, confidence and trust. Never, ever! “Our mind is the greatest creation on earth and it can generate the most sublime happiness for its owner–or it can destroy him. Yet although we have been given the secret of how to control it, for our happiness and benefit, we still function completely ignorant of its potential . . . ”

In short, a heart-warming story of hope and inspiration . Publishing Guidelines:

A “REVIEW” OF ‘THE GREATEST MIRACLE IN THE WORLD’ by Og Mandino

About the Author:

4. The fourth great law of happiness and success . . . Use your power of choice wisely.

Choose to laugh (especially at yourself)

Choose to plan

Choose to will. You can even will good things into being!

Choose to imagine. Napoleon said that “imagination is more important than knowledge”… and even capital (me)!

Choose to create

Choose to persevere

Choose to praise

Choose to heal

Choose to give

Choose to ACT

Choose to grow . You are more than a human being, you are a human becoming. You are capable of great wonders – your potential is unlimited.

Choose to speak

Choose to keep silent (sometimes when deeply hurt)

Choose to pray

Choose to LIVE

and finally … and most importantly…

Choose to LOVE: Love can tear down walls of suspicion and hate; it has the power to turn strangers into friends

Remember, then, the four laws of happiness and success.

# Count your blessings
# Proclaim your rarity
# Go that extra mile
# Use wisely your power of choice.
“I gave you the power to choose. I gave you complete control over your destiny… in accordance with your own free will. ”

To fulfil the other four.

Do all things with love . . . love for yourself, love for all others, and love for GOD. (“Grand Organizational Design/Designer”). YOU can be a shining example of how much IS possible to accomplish with one’s life despite obstacles and handicaps.

This world has provided me with everything a man could desire. It is time I began to repay my debt by doing all I can to help make a better life for all mankind.

Never, ever forget . . .

The greatest miracle in the world is YOU!”

How to prioritise your life. The book is all about BALANCE and PRIORITISING YOUR LIFE

Have a mind open to and ready to accept new knowledge.

You have to have something else to BALANCE your life (eg. getting an education) – in case your dream doesn’t materialize for you – in case your plan doesn’t work out for you.

Develop RESPECT (for yourself and others) and work on your sense of SELF WORTH

1. Have a MISSION. Everyone needs a purpose in life. Listen to your heart.

Are you stressed?
Symptoms:
* can’t sleep or oversleep

* eat all the time

* you can’t seem to focus

* you seem to be powerless in effecting control over your life

* do you feel your life is running away from you?

All these indicate that you are under stress.

MISSION:

Ask yourself the question: What is really important in your life?

What would you like them to say about you? What kind of legacy would you like to leave the world?
What kind of life do you want to lead?
What are you passionate about?
WHO are you really? What do you stand for?

It’s so easy to let THINGS define you. What would you be without your car, job, etc.

“Nobody on their death bed wished they’d spent more time at the office.”

What is the one thing you can do in your life personally right NOW that could make a difference – personally (as in relationships) and professionally?
Most people know what the answer is (in their hearts); but they are not doing it. Write it down what it is you really want.
What’s stopping you from doing it?

They are driven by what is URGENT, rather than what’s IMPORTANT. Do what is IMPORTANT, rather than what is URGENT.

We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

— Aristoteles
Greek philosopher, 384 B.C. – 322 B.C.

PREPARE and PLAN – so that there is time for other things. Prevention too.

Ask yourself: Where do you want to be? Doing the things that are important to you. Take time to build it up. Find your sense of integrity: in both relationships, as well as the community.
Don’t waste time on worthless reading, or watching mindless TV programmes.

We all need these areas of our life to be fulfilled:

Health – exercise
Heart – the relationship with the key people in your life
Mind – developing the mind
Spirit/Soul – sense of integrity, sense of contribution or service.

You can’t do right in one area of your life and wrong in another. It’s total and indivisible.

So ensure that you are headed in the right direction. It’s not just a matter of acquiring material possessions, like a new lounge suite, TV, BMW, etc.

There are many dimensions to your life. What is your credo or mission statement? WHAT IS MY LIFE ALL ABOUT. Doing this is a most rewarding exercise. It provides a frame of reference and it will provide direction in your life by enabling you to build on your most important values in life. Doing this can also enhance a person’s sense of self esteem.

“You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being,
not because anybody says so, not because you’re successful,
not because you make a lot of money, but because you decide
to believe it and for no other reason.”

— Wayne Dyer, American motivational author

HOW TO ENRICH YOUR LIFE:

Is it to perhaps spend more time with your family? Nobody on their death-bed said they should have spent more time at the office. Most people want more quality time.
Exercise.

Spend more time on your health and happiness, instead of eating, sleeping and working.

Spend more time on those people really important to you – wife, ‘hubbie’ and family.

One good hint is to learn to say ‘no’ to people.

DEVELOP YOUR MISSION STATEMENT. Once you have the goal you start working towards it…because you then know what you’re all about.

HAVE A VISION: “Vision is greater than baggage.”
“Without a vision, the people perish.”

What is your life really about? What is your purpose/your reason for being?

Why are we here?
Don’t get distracted from your central mission.
What are the values you want to build upon?
What are we here for?

To:
LIVE – ie. make a living

LEARN – by growing

LOVE

LEAVE A LEGACY – a memory, to make a difference (contribution) through your life.
Once you have defined your values (from your mission statement), you can then live a “principle-centered” life.

Whatever you do,

Live your life with INTEGRITY (“to thine own self be true”, thanks mom).

Put yourself in line with the principles of the universe.
To do this, first keep your promises to yourself; because without doing that you cannot have true integrity. So honour your commitment to yourself. The answer is within you. “The kingdom of heaven is within you.”

If you can’t honour that commitment, first make small promises to yourself, then KEEP them. Start with small commitments, then make bigger promises. Make it, keep it, make it, keep it.
Honour.

Have a “Win Win” attitude towards them. By helping them, you can help yourself.

“The deepest hunger of the human heart is to feel understood.”
– Stephen Covey

Edwin Hubbel Chapin once said, “Every action of our lives touches on
some chord that will vibrate in eternity.” That is the definition of a
legacy. Wouldn’t you love to do something that might strike a
beautiful chord that will “vibrate in eternity”?
“Believe in yourself and in your dream,
Though impossible things may seem
Someday, somehow you’ll get through
To the goal you have in view.
Mountains fall and seas divide,
Before the one who in his stride
Takes a hard road by day
Sweeping obstacles away
Believe in yourself and in your plan
Say not – I cannot – I can
The prizes of life we fail to win
Because we doubt the power within…”

THE OLD TESTAMENT: THE PROPHETS

Just sharing a few uplifting thoughts from my studies and notes (as well as my in depth discussions with my good friend, “The Prophet and Prayer-Warrior”
Introduction: The Prophets, Haggai , Zechariah and Malachi all inspired a proper (and positive) attitude in worship. God’s Infinite Love prepares hearts for a true relationship with God.

HAGGAI THE PROPHET
Re-order your priorities in line with God’s will. What has God told you to do? Put all else aside and obey Him.
The basic theme is to GET STARTED and NEVER QUIT! Haggai motivated and encouraged the people to believe in themselves and build the temple. Postponing difficult decisions is the direct result of a lack of faith! The people must first build the temple before God can bless their efforts.
Place God first and Haggai says God will bring joy and prosperity to His people.
*
THE PROPHET (ZECHARIAH)
The book of Zechariah has been relevant to people during every age.
Purpose: To give hope to God’s people by revealing God’s future deliverance through the Messiah
Here is the basic message of Zechariah…
Look beyond your present circumstances to the future by developing a positive, worshipful attitude to God. The Prophet reminded the people that God had a plan for their future in the coming of the Messiah and the Messiah will bring salvation. Through building on the spiritual quality of people’s lives, God promised to work miraculous events for His people. Zechariah, the Prophet gave people hope and a vision to trust God and see a bright future, as they planned ahead. So prepare well, dream big, announce your intentions and put in the hard work to make your dreams, your vision come to fruition. Zachariah taught that through people did not know what the future held in store for them, men and women of faith knew the God, who knew the future.
God has a plan for the world… but God also has a plan for each ONE of us

THE PROPHET, MALACHI
The book of Malachi forms a bridge between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Purpose: To confront the people with their sins and to restore their relationship with God.
Malachi sought to bring the people back to God, encouraging them to shed the pagan lifestyle they had adopted whilst in exile. The people were ignorant as to how they were to worship God and their lifestyles revealed a lack of trust in God’s ability to provide for their needs.
Key word: Messenger Malachi reminds the people of a day of reckoning when God judges the righteous and the wicked. But he also reminds the people that a messenger will come and redemption will follow.
Malachi concludes with a promise of the coming of the prophet Elijah, who will offer God’s forgiveness to all people through forgiveness and
faith (4:5,6). God’s Infinite Love prepares hearts for a true relationship with God.
Our lives can be a living message of God’s positive love and joy.
God has a plan for the world… but God also has a plan for each ONE of us!

The Book of Malachi
“A vase shatters, brushed by a careless elbow; a toy breaks, pushed beyond its limit by young fingers; and fabric rips, pulled by strong and angry hands. Spills and rips take time to clean up or repair and money to replace, but far more costly are shattered relationships. Unfaithfulness, un-truths, hateful words, and forsaken vows tear delicate personal bonds and inflict wounds not easily healed. Most tragic, however, a broken relationships with God.

God loves perfectly and completely. And his love is a love of action–giving, guiding, and guarding. He is altogether faithful, true to his promise to his chosen people. but consistently they spurn their loving God, breaking the covenant, following other gods, and living for themselves. So the relationship is shattered.
But the breach is not irreparable; all hope is not lost. God can heal and mend and reweave the fabric.
Forgiveness is available. And that is grace.
Malachi paints a stunning picture of Israel’s unfaithfulness that clearly shows them to be worthy of punishment, but woven throughout this message is HOPE–the possibility of
forgiveness. This is beautifully expressed in 4:2 –“But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.”
Malachi concludes with a promise of the coming of the “the prophet Elijah,” who will offer God’s
forgiveness to all people through repentance and faith (4:5,6).
The book of Malachi forms a bridge between the Old Testament and the New Testament. As you read Malachi, see yourself as the recipient of this word of God to his people. Evaluate the depth of your commitment, the sincerity of your worship, and the direction of your life. Then allow god to restore your relationship with him through his love and
forgiveness.” Malachi closes his messages by pointing to that great final day of judgment. For those who are committed to God, judgment day will be a day of joy because it will usher in eternity in God’s presence. Those who have ignored God will be “stubble,” to be burned up (4:1). To help the people prepare for that day of judgment, God would send a prophet like Elijah (John the Baptist), who would prepare the way for Jesus, the Messiah. The New Testament beings with this prophet calling the people to turn from their sins and to turn toward god. Such a commitment to God demands great sacrifice on our part, but we can be sure it will be worth it all in the end.

PUT YOUR DREAM TO THE TEST AND HOW TO SURVIVE THE SURPRIZE by Dr John Maxwell

“It took me twenty long years of blood, sweat and floods of tears to become an overnight success.”

– an anymoose writer”

In his new book, ‘Put Your Dream to the Test’), John Maxwell is talking about the dream journey of the bible-character, Joseph. And there are parallels that each one of us can learn from Joseph in following the path of our own dreams. A first lesson: Each great journey has a great price. The questions to ask yourself to make your wildest dreams come true:

1. Am I willing to pay the price for my dream? Don’t be limited by your thinking (eg fleas in a bottle learnt not to jump high). There is always a cost to reaching your dreams. Family and friends often react negatively to your dream. Always remember, along the journey, you will have more “downs” than “ups”.

2. Do I have enough passion? Does my passion impel me to keep the dream alive? Passion is the great energizer, which pushes us on, when all appears lost.

3. Always remember, God is with you in the tough times, the “dark ” days and hours in the valleys. Along the journey we become closely attached to God, our “closest companion” through our “ups and downs”… to guide, strengthen and comfort us. God is ALWAYS faithful “If God is with us, everybody else might as well be too!” – John Maxwell

* Attitude is a CHOICE The attitude I have today is a choice. It’s my responsibility… TODAY! Invest in others. Put others first. Help them achieve THEIR dreams. Add value to them (and their lives) There are four ways to do that:

1. Value people, first

2. Add value to what others value.

3. By making ourselves more valuable

4. By doing things God values – that have an eternal nature.

NB: Be forgiving – no matter what someone has done to you. Have a forgiving spirit.

INTRODUCTION

Submitter’s Note:

Craig has been studying the amazing powers of the human mind for the past two decades (now his “life-long hobby”). These are some notes I took from an uplifting and inspiring address by Dr John Maxwell from the ‘Hour of Power’ television programme (he has written a new book), so (even if you are not “religiously-minded”) I am sharing the contents of this author’s work in the spirit of encouraging and hopefully even inspiring those people to just GO FOR IT with all you’ve got. Nothing is impossible, if you earnestly desire it and work hard at achieving your dreams. Thank you sincerely, Dr Maxwell for sharing your most uplifting words of wisdom in encouraging me to follow my passion and reach for my personal dreams down the “un-trodden path of self fulfilment”. I in turn am passing them on through the amazing power of the ‘net’. Enjoy…

Part Four: In his address (based on his new book, ‘Put Your Dream to the Test’), John Maxwell is talking about the dream journey of Joseph. Joseph went from being a “believer” into a “buyer of the dream”, he really “bought into” his dream and “survived the surprise”. He fully trusted God (though “bad things can still happen to good people”).

NOW THAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED YOUR WILDEST DREAM(S)… WHAT NEXT?

Once we achieve, receive our dream, how to make the most of it? My dream is HERE. Often we can impact others more through sharing our failures more than our successes (a failure is just a person, who hasn’t succeeded …YET!). Now that you have achieved your dream…

* Be GENEROUS

* HELP others.. through adding value to them…. through your success (and what you’ve learnt along the way). Remember: ” God will not give to us, what will not flow through usSo share the benefits of your dream with others. Ask yourself: “Does my success, achieving my dream, benefit others in some way?” “Will other people be blessed with the God-given dream inside me?” .

*

SUMMARY:

1. Be GENEROUS

2 Be HUMBLE. “If the Lord makes you successful… one day, I’ll keep you humble.”

– a wife (I won’t say whose!)

Remember: “divine promotion is better than self promotion”) God raised me up. God helps those who can’t help themselves, when we are in over our heads and God makes the difference in achieving our dreams. Keeps us humble. CHOOSE to give God the glory, pass it on . Say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:3)

3 Have an attitude TO WIN Say “I CAN…one sunny day!

4. Live with an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE Always remember… God has already equipped you with all that you need to achieve your goals and even your wildest dreams . It usually takes a long time for your dream to lift off (the bigger the dream, the longer it takes). So be PATIENT. Wait on your dream. Trials and tribulations bring patience.Dreams are conceived in the mind long before they are realised. Dreams are like a large aircraft, a Jumbo jet on the runway. It takes a lot of energy for them to lift off, but then you soar freely. You can, if you THINK you can. Just believe in your dream…and yourself!

5. Use the great power of the human imagination to the fullest.

“Whatever the mind can conceive, can be achieved”.

Do all this in following YOUR dream and you WILL soar high and allow you to be all God intended you to be and become. You CAN do it … and in doing so you’ll surprize yourself at what is “humanly” possible!

Makes your dreams BIG enough for God, the Ultimate Source to fit in!

BELIEVE it (first) …then SEE your dreams come true

About the submitter:

Craig has been following his dream for many years. He likes (rather loves) to share knowledge and insights from his life experiences with dashes of humour to try and help others in ‘every little way’ he can… without being too much of a “Mr goody-goody boring two shoes” (although they may be different colours and he’s lost the other one) . Craig believes the spiritual dimension is something we can all “tap into”… like ‘a sixth sense’, which gives each person ‘superior wisdom’ (“Infinite Wisdom from the Ultimate Source”) in making decisions and choosing one’s path in life.

He loves encouraging people to find, then follow their dreams in life… truly believing that with hard work, dedication, faith, and patience absolutely ANYTHING is possible to achieve (accomplish) in life

SHARING SOME UPLIFTING THOUGHTS from DR NORMAN VINCENT PEALE (to Give Comfort, Strength and Peace of Mind in Times of Trial and Struggle)

Submitters Note:

These are some notes that I wrote down many years ago in a very dark period of my life . . . a time of prolonged great hardship in a seemingly impossibly difficult situation, which I’m “passing on”. (I think they were from Norman Vincent Peace, the author of the Power of Positive Thinking). Yes, on checking my notes these words from Dr Peale’s ‘Self Help Book’ of Thought Conditioners (from the Bible) served to sustain and encourage me to “hang in there” with hope, faith and persistence. And I hope they may do the same for you . . . whatever situation you may find yourself in.

Hope these thoughts are not “too  heavy-heavy religious” for you.

The light of God will be with you on the path up ahead.

                                           *

Christianity has its roots in the mystery of eternal life. This faith is a way of understanding the unknowable. Wanted to understand the cycle of life, death and rebirth.

However, one has to be a believer to “get into different levels of understanding”… which is achieved through the immense power of faith.

“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed…nothing shall be impossible to you . . . ”

“According to your faith, be it unto you.” – Matthew ix.290

“If God be for us, who can be against us?” – Romans viii.31

(and you may as well be too!!!)

Simply affirm:” God is with me in this situation; God is helping me; God is guiding me.

Remind yourself that God is with you and nothing can defeat you. BELIEVE that you now receive power from Him.

“Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. Everything passes away except God. God alone is sufficient.”

Thomas Carlyle: “Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves.”

I was in a situation where I had to make a decision: an intellectual, rational one (of the mind), or that of some kind of spiritual discipline and faith. The first (selling Sky subscriptions) one was easy, the second, the writing path) hard. The first is about ego, the second about the battle inside you that gives life meaning.

I chose the hardest path – it was like having wings. I wanted to look at everything another way.

It’s no specific faith. It could be any religion – it’s a deep belief in God, the human spirit.” – the words of Ingrid Betancourt (Colombian hostage)

Faith is a choice It’s a decision It’s a commitment

“The just shall live by faith – Romans 1:16,17

MATTHEW: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” *

LIFE’S PROBLEMS

1. Believe, really believe, that for every problem, there is a solution (and very often it’s a spiritual one).

2. Keep calm. Tension blocks the flow of thought power. Your brain cannot operate efficiently under too much stress.

3. Don’t try to force an answer. Keep the mind relaxed and the solution will become clear. List the facts of the problem on paper – be objective, so that your problem does not become subjective.

Be patient waiting for an answer, a solution …which comes via the subconscious mind

6. Pray about your problem, affirming that God will flash illumination into your mind. Believe God’s promise in the 73rd Psalm: “Thou wilt guide thee by thou counsel.”

7. Trust fully in the faculty of insight and intuition.

Go to church and let your subconscious work on the problem.

There is always a close connection between how a man thinks and how he feels. In addition, there is impressive evidence to support the view that God works through both the practitioner of science, the doctor, and the practitioner of faith, the minister (mind-body relationship). The answer is in the healing teachings of Jesus.

“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm XVI.10

“In him we live and move and have our being.” – Acts xvii.28

By faith you place yourself in the flow of divine power.

William James: “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” As you think, so shall you be. fill your mind with fresh new creative thoughts of faith, love and goodness.”

1. Don’t get the idea that you are Atlas carrying the world on your shoulders. Don’t strain so hard. Don’t take yourself so seriously.

2. Determine to like your work. Change yourself and your work will seem different.

3. Plan your work and work your plan.

4. Don’t try to do everything at once: “This one thing I do.”

5. Get the right mental attitude.

6. Practice being relaxed – take it all in your stride.

William James: “One of the deepest drives of human nature is the desire to be appreciated.”

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peacably with all men.’ – Romans xii.18

It is not advisable to attempt to carry the burden of sorrow and mental pain without Divine help; for it’s weight is more than the personality can bear. There is always the soothing presence of God at hand.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” – I Corinthians ii.9

Socrates: “No evil can befall a good man in this life or in the next.”

* State your problem

* Ask for a specific answer. Believe that you are getting that answer. BELIEVE, really believe that now through God’s help, you are gaining power over that difficulty.

Higher Power/Authority

If there is deep desire, intensity of longing, and a reaching out after the Power, it will be given.

We may never meet in person, but in this book we have met. We are spiritual friends. I pray for you, God will help you – so believe and live successfully.

Jesus Christ: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John X 10.

PRAYER

Prayer helps people to tap forces and to utilise strength not otherwise available.

A famous psychologist once said these wise words: “Prayer is the greatest power available to the individual in solving his personal problems. It’s power astonishes me.” Release of spiritual energy through prayer. It releases and keeps power flowing freely.

According to your faith, be it unto you.” – Matthew ix.29

“What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” – Mark xi.24

Faith and harmony are important factors in the prayer process.

Hard work, positive thinking, fair dealing, right treatment of people, and the proper kind of praying always gets results. Formula: * Prayerise + * Picturise + * Actualise

The Kingdom of God is within you.” – Luke xvii.21

Prayer is the mightiest power in the world. Every day is good if you pray.

Always accept willingness to accept God’s will in your life. Ask for what you want; but be willing to take what God gives you. It may be better than what you ask for.

Prayer: I believe I am always divinely guided I believe I will always take the right turn of the road.

I believe God will always make a way when there is no way.

Discipline ourselves to quietness. Slow down, quiet down. do not fume, do not fret, practise being peaceful.

“The peace of God which passeth all understanding.” – Philippians ix.7

Life can get muddled, but muddied water, let stand, will become clear.” – Lao-tse

Practise serenity

Affirm: “God is here and his peace is touching me.”

“Come unto me, all that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew xi.28

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John xiv.27

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” – Isaiah xxvi.3

Tranquillity – the very word denotes a sense of peace.

So long thy power hath kept me, sure it STILL will lead me on. Send into the area of your thinking a healing balm.

With God’s help I am now emptying my mind of all fear, all anxiety, all insecurity. Repeat. Picture all worry thoughts flowing out of you.

I place this day, my life, my loved ones in the Lord’s hands.

“… but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians iii.13-14

Mark in your Bible every passage that speaks of faith, hope, happiness, glory and radiance. Commit each to memory.

When Jesus Christ was born He was called Immanuel, meaning God with us.

* PRAYER

EXPECT THE BEST AND GET IT

“If thou can’st believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” – Mark IX 23

Whatever you believe you can do, you can do, with God’s help. When you put your trust in God, he guides your mind so that you do not want things that are not good for you, or that are inharmonious with God’s will. When you learn to believe, then that which has seemingly been impossible moves into the area/becomes possible. When you expect the best, you release a magnetic force in your mind, which by a law of attraction tends to bring the best to you.

Faith moves mountains: Faith, belief, positive thinking, faith in God, faith in other people, faith in yourself, faith in life.

Freed from self doubt, you can put your whole self into your endeavour, and nothing can stand in the way of the man or woman, who focuses their entire self on a problem. Expect to succeed and you WILL.

“Throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow.”

Expect the best, not the worst, and you will attain your heart’s desire. It is what is in the heart of you, either good or bad, weak or strong, that finally comes to you. Emerson: “Beware of what you want, for you will get it.” faith power works wonders.

Have faith in God. “For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea.”

– Mark 11

“But shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” – Mark XI. 22-23

Be specific. Ask God for any right thing, but as a little child, don’t doubt…NEVER.

* STRENGTH

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Phillipians iv.13 “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.”

“A clean mind, as a clean engine, always delivers power.”

A fundamental doctrine of Emerson: the human personality can be touched with Divine Power and thus greatness can be released from it. William James: the greatest factor in any undertaking is one’s belief about it. Thoreau: the secret of achievement is to hold a picture of a successful outcome in mind.

Jefferson: “Take the smooth handle”…ie. follow the path of least resistance.

RELAX. Affirm the thought that God is filling us with strength and quiet energy. Get yourself in tune with Him and open yourself to the flow of His power.

Give your job all you’ve got, but in a relaxed manner.

“According to your faith be it unto you.” – Matthew ix.29 is a basic law for successful living.

“The just shall live by faith – Romans 1:16,17

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” – Matthew

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40.28-31.

INTRODUCTION:

Submitter’s Note:
Craig has been studying and researching the human mind, the “last unexplored frontier” for the past fifteen years and he is currently “working” on the connection (overlap) between mind and spirit, the relationship between psychology (science of the mind) and the spiritual world, God. A fascinating subject!

This article (in point form) is based on an excellent motivational, up-lifting and inspiring book ‘THE MAGIC OF BELIEVING’ by Claude Bristol (written in the “thirties”). I am sharing the contents of this work in the spirit of encouraging and hopefully even inspiring those people, who really want to achieve their fullest potentials to read this classic book. Then just BELIEVE (tempered with some plan of action, of course!)…and then surprise themselves what happens, as you travel down your unique path in life.

Thank you sincerely, Mr Bristol for sharing your practical insight, words of wisdom and especially inspiration, which I’m passing on in the form of this series of articles from my notes taken from your book.

THE MAGIC OF BELIEVING – THE POWER OF THOUGHT ENERGY (PART ONE)

“Deep within man dwell those slumbering powers;
powers that would astonish him,
that he never dreamed of possessing;
forces that would revolutionize his life if aroused
and put into action.”
– Orison Swett Marden

INTRODUCTION:

Submitter’s Note:
Craig has been studying and researching the human mind, the “last unexplored frontier” for the past fifteen years and he is currently “working” on the connection (overlap) between mind and spirit, the relationship between
psychology (science of the mind) and the spiritual world, God.

Do you really BELIEVE you can be successful on the internet?

Powerful forces locked in your mind can turn desire into reality. Learn to release them in this extraordinary book.
Just BELIEVE!

“If thou can’st believe, all things are possible to him that believeth”
– Mark 9:23

Most religions of the world (but especially Christianity) are based upon principles of psychology… and especially the powerful principle of FAITH (“God turns the impossible into the possible”). There is a golden thread running through all the teachings and makes them work for all who genuinely accept and apply them; it helps them reach all their goals in life. True ??? That thread, in a word, is BELIEF. There’s genuine magic in believing. Study books of greatness and inspiration; because as we learn, we grow (in knowledge, as well as spiritually). It’s a journey of exploration and personal growth.

See the law of suggestion (auto-suggestion) at work.
Most of history’s greatest achievements have been accomplished not by the most talented, but by the people who were willing to take on great risks and challenges and see them through. And that happens only by believing…and then sustaining that belief over a period of time. And ALL of us can develop belief, yet few people know HOW.

“You can become the unique person that it is in you to become; but only if you resist the urge to conform to the images others hold of you. You can turn all your potential into reality, only if you are willing to DREAM…and BELIEVE.”
– Nido R. Quebin.

Is there a something, a force, factor, power, a science, call it what you will, which a few people understand and use to overcome their difficulties and achieve outstanding success?

This concept is understood by few and used by even less people. I am convinced any sincere person can reach any heights he or she desires. There is a wealth of spirit in YOU. This book is written to help develop individual thinking and doing, to help people to a better understanding…and the principle DOES work.

THE POWER OF THOUGHT (or the ‘science of thought’): The principles mentioned in this work substantiate great truths handed down the ages (or what is simply known as ‘The Law of Attraction‘).

The greatest problems bothering most people are financial ones. So the amazing invention of the internet provides an avenue to help yourself and others at the same time. I really believe that!

Old Latin proverb: “Believe you have it and you have it.” Belief is the motivating factor that enables you to reach your goal.
Believe it… then you’ll SEE it!

Make success your dominant thought. Whatever is your dominant thought will end up happening (through controlled FOCUS, like a laser-beam). So you need to put it “out there” and everything will follow. Lift yourself up to possibilities (endless). Keep on believing, even though there are always challenges and knock-backs. Always really believe that your vision is going to come to fruition…one bright sunny day!

Can man project his thoughts, even at great distances into other minds (mental telepathy)?

The most important advance in the next generation will be in the vast unknown of the human mind – dealing with the spiritual, ie. thought. Psychology is the science of the mind.

Persistence brings confidence and a continued right mental attitude followed by consistent action will bring success. Know the formula. It is mind power that has built empires.

Use the technique only for GOOD – to better yours and others lives.

THOUGHT:
Thought is a terrific force with unlimited powers.
RW Emerson: “Thought is the ancestor of our every action.”

Our world is governed by thought. Buddha: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.”

The secret of success lies not without, but within the thoughts of man. History is filled with accounts of how thought has made weak men strong and strong men weak…and evidence of this is evident all around us in everyday living.

What you exhibit outwardly you are inwardly. You are the product of your own thoughts. “What you believe yourself to be, you are.”
Your body is the garden, whilst your mind and will are the gardeners.

Thought is the original source of all wealth, success, material gain, all great discoveries and inventions…and of ALL achievement. Without it there’d be no empires built. A man’s thoughts make or break him. Shakespeare: “There is nothing good or bad; but thinking makes it so.”

Draw on the great source of power that lies within each one of us.
We become what we contemplate, what we think about most. Everything is within – the mind is the SOURCE of all POWER.
Man secures the gold of the spirit, when he finds himself.

Edison said that ‘ideas come from space’. God??? (another “heavy” topic for discussion, there craig with your bright spark friend, Andy)

The great ancient Greek physician, Paracelsus: “The human spirit is so great a thing that no-one can express it. Faith must strengthen the imagination, for faith establishes the will.”

The Keys to Success:
The first step on the road to success:
Know exactly WHAT you want out of life.
Then DEFINE it!

Hard work alone will not bring success; our hands are designed to be helping the brain.
DESIRE (burning), an obsession helps ensure success in any endeavour. (Personally, I feel we need to have balance in our lives).
Ensure your thoughts and aims are co-ordinated.
Make your energy concentrated and applied without “let-up” (continuous). Then channelled into focused direction.
*
There is a big difference between NEED and a DESIRE.

All-consuming thoughts can be bad, as one needs balance in our lives. It becomes more real with our thinking and adding flavour (intensity) through our imaginations, ie. the technique of visualisation.

“Thought attracts that upon which it is directed.”
It then sinks into our consciousness – the depth depends on the constancy, intensity and power of your thoughts.

Everything that exists is vibration???
As evident in “the healing touch of Jesus’s hand”.

Prayer and meditation operate through this principle, as “focussed energy”, like a lasar-beam.

“Creative force comes only when there is a completely rounded-out thought, when there is a fully developed mental picture, or when the imagination can visualise the attainment of our ambition and see in our mind a picture of the object we desire – a house, a car, a radio, etc – just as if we already possessed them.”

To be effective, you have to really BELIEVE that your prayers will be answered. Different creeds and cults work as a result of the firm beliefs of the individual: The “Magic of Believing”.
*
The Subconscious Mind:

It’s the “still small voice within”.
Supreme Intelligence or Universal Mind, the subconscious or “essence of life” : the limits of its powers are unknown – it never sleeps, warns us of impending danger and can perform what are sometimes called ‘
miracles‘. The subconscious acts primarily on its own initiative, but there are times when its activities appear to be the result of influences from outside.

Get in contact with your subconscious mind and you can achieve wealth, power, fame, as well as cure physical ailments and solve countless human problems. And its power is for YOU to use. Just BELIEVE in its power and put it to work using the techniques or systems mentioned in the book.

Inventions, great musical compositions, poetry, fiction, writings (like this work) and all other ideas for original accomplishment come from the subconscious. Bricks fall into place, like a “magical hand”. A pattern of co-incidences is a working out of a pattern you started with your own weaving.

The great power of the subconscious is one of the most formidable forces in shaping and controlling our lives. Perhaps it works like an electrical vibration sets the law of attraction into operation.

Sustained thought or fixed mental picture – go “into the silence”. Make mental pictures through the imagination – visualise. This comes about as a result of belief – a strange power that causes miracles to happen. It’s a deep-seated belief – “heart and soul”. a spiritual force. Know with every fibre of your being that you WILL achieve your desires.

Remember that success is a process and your life is a “work in progress”; so take one day at a time in an ‘attitude of gratitude‘.

In a “nutshell”…

* ACT right
and
* BELIEVE right

if you THINK you CAN!
